Finally, something is going in a good direction in this week's Parsha.
Finally, something is going in a good direction in this week's Parsha. After the darkness of the previous sedrahs, we now see some light. We see a Teshuvah process in full view where Joseph, who, himself underwent deep transformative and radical therapy, has now, wisely, designed a program to bring his brothers to a place of Teshuvah and, finally, a much needed family reconciliation and healing.
It is appropriate that this Parsha follows Hanukah. With our minds, hearts, hands, and voices we have chosen to increase the light on the menorah, reaffirming the light within ourselves and sharing it with others.
Our world today is threatened by those, for whatever reason are not bending toward understanding and reconciliation. More of us, people of good will, need to rise to the occasion. Joseph rises to the occasion. Judah rises to the occasion. More of our leaders in the political, academic, and socio economic worlds need to find their inner Joseph and Judah, and also, the light of the divine feminine. We need a Summit of Teshuvah alongside a Summit of Democracy.
Am Kolel has been devoted to breaking down barriers that separate peoples from each other. We have spoken out against injustices in society and around the world. And we have been devoted to bringing more light into Judaism and the Jewish life of our people through song, fellowship, and creativity.
Many of you are doing amazing work! Let us know what you are doing and how we can support you. Beginning next week we will highlight some of the work or programs you are committed to.
On that note, also support our December Appeal.
VaYehi Ohr, "Let there be light",
